Add up the trailer (1,000 kg) and the car you're carrying. That total must be within both your vehicle's towing capacity and your towbar's rating, whichever is lower. You'll find them in the vehicle handbook and on the towbar plate.
| Car you're carrying | Total to tow (approx.) |
|---|---|
| 1,200 kg small car | 2,200 kg |
| 1,500 kg medium car | 2,500 kg |
| 2,000 kg ute or 4WD | 3,000 kg |
| 2,500 kg (the most it carries) | 3,500 kg |
Short version: many medium SUVs and utes can tow a small car on this trailer. A full 3,500 kg load needs a vehicle rated to tow 3,500 kg, such as many dual-cab utes and large 4WDs. Check your own vehicle's figures.
Need straps? Our Dalby shop sells ratchet straps: 500 kg $14, 1,500 kg $18, 2,500 kg $25 (saved site prices, 18 Oct 2026). There's no shop at Drayton, so pick them up in Dalby or bring your own.

Up to 2,500 kg. The trailer is rated at 3,500 kg ATM (the most it can weigh loaded) and weighs 1,000 kg empty (tare), so the vehicle you carry can weigh up to 2,500 kg. Check the car's kerb weight in its handbook or on the manufacturer's website.
Your vehicle's towing capacity and your towbar's rating must both cover the loaded trailer: the trailer's 1,000 kg plus the car you're carrying. For example, a 1,500 kg car makes about 2,500 kg in total. You also need a 50 mm tow ball and a working 7-pin flat trailer socket (or an adapter).
No. The car trailer has electric brakes with an Elecbrake controller fitted, so you don't need one in your vehicle. Trailers over 750 kg (loaded, GTM) must have brakes. Over 2,000 kg they need brakes on all wheels that you control from the driver's seat, plus a breakaway system (Australian Design Rule 38/05).
Keep the trailer hitched to your vehicle on flat ground, pull out the ramps and line them up with the car's wheels. Pull the car up slowly with the manual hand winch (included), or drive it up with someone guiding you. Stop with the car's weight slightly forward of the trailer's axles, so the drawbar pushes down on the tow ball rather than lifting it.
Straps aren't listed as included, so bring rated ratchet straps or wheel nets. Tie the car down at all four corners, leave it in gear with the handbrake on, and re-check the straps after the first few kilometres. The National Transport Commission's Load Restraint Guide for Light Vehicles shows how.
